HONG KONG – The Hong Kong government said on Saturday that it had detected 617 preliminary positive COVID-19 cases as it completed targeted testing operations in two districts.

The government said it will provide health advice for people who tested preliminarily positive pending admission to hospitals or isolation facilities. It will also send disinfection products to these households

The government set up "restricted areas" at Sau Yee House and Sau Wah House of Sau Mau Ping Estate in Kwun Tong Friday evening as it suspected that there are asymptomatic patients in the buildings after sewage discharged from the blocks tested positive for the coronavirus.

A total of around 2,070 people have undergone testing at Sau Wah House in the overnight operation. Among them, 259 tested preliminarily positive while the results of 36 others were indeterminate. At Sau Yee House, the government found 273 preliminary positive cases and 40 indeterminate ones after around 2,030 people were tested.

In addition to the Kwun Tong buildings, the government also set up a "restricted area" at Block 5 of On Ning Garden in Tseung Kwan O Friday evening after preliminary cases of the COVID-19 mutant strains were detected in the block.

As of midnight, around 910 people within the "restricted area" had undergone testing. Eighty-five of them tested preliminarily positive and seven indeterminate cases were found, the government said.
