A four-day exhibition featuring Chinese painting and calligraphy kicked off on Thursday to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan Civic Centre.

More than 160 artworks provided by collectors and Hong Kong artists are now on display for visitors to enjoy

More than 160 artworks provided by collectors and Hong Kong artists are now on display for visitors to enjoy. Painting and calligraphy work from the Ming Dynasty (1368―1644) to contemporary times, such as Eagle by Pan Tianshou (1897–1971), Yan’an by Fu Baoshi (1904―1965), and an artwork featuring peonies and bauhinia flower by Wang Zitian, chairman of Hong Kong Art Researching Association, are the biggest highlights at the exhibition.

The event is hosted by the China Association of Social Economic and Cultural Exchange, and the China Hong Kong Culture Sports and Tourism Association, and co-organized by other cultural organizations such as the Asia Culture Tours Satellite TV International Media Group.

Heavyweights including Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak Mei-kuen, Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers Wong Kam-leung, and lawmakers Bill Tang Ka-piu and Junius Ho Kwan-yiu attended the opening ceremony on Thursday.

The exhibition is scheduled to end on Oct 16.
