HONG KONG – The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said it has started an investigation into the MTR train incident that disrupted services along the Tseung Kwan O Line on Monday morning. 

In a statement issued on Monday night, the EMSD said it was deeply concerned about the train incident and immediately visited the scene to start its investigation. 

The EMSD said it has requested the MTR Corporation Ltd to submit a preliminary investigation report not later than Thursday

The MTRCL will complete the investigation and submit a detailed report within two months or not later than Feb 4, the EMSD said.

It was required to provide an account of the incident and its causes, how it handled the incident, and the improvement measures and implementation plan to ensure the safety of railway operations and prevent similar incidents in the future. 

According to the MTR’s official website, an equipment fault occurred on a train at 9:18 am while it was between the LOHAS Park and Tseung Kwan O stations.

Because of the incident, train services between North Point station and Tiu Keng Leng station operated every five minutes, while those between Tiu Keng Leng station and Po Lam station / LOHAS Park station were suspended.

Train services gradually resumed after 12:30 pm, the MTR added.

Last month, a collision between an MTR train and a metallic protection barrier caused an accident in Yau Ma Tei, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of passengers.
