HONG KONG – Hong Kong reported 12 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, the lowest since the beginning of the fourth wave of the outbreak in mid-November last year, bringing the city's overall tally to 10,767.

Saturday's new infections involved two imported cases and 10 locally transmitted ones, two of which were untraceable, said the head of the Communicable Disease Branch of the city's Centre for Health Protection, Chuang Shuk-kwan, at a press briefing

The imported cases involved one foreign domestic helper from the Philippines and a traveler from Dubai, said Chuang.

The authorities recorded 384 infections from Jan 30 to Feb 12, of which 336 cases were transmitted locally, accounting for 88 percent of all cases. The source of origin of 105 cases was unknown, Chan added. 

According to Hong Kong's Hospital Authority, 372 COVID-19 patients are currently being treated in public hospitals and at a community treatment facility at AsiaWorld-Expo, with 21 in critical condition.

One more patient has died from COVID-19, bringing the city's toll to 193.

The 60-year-old man was admitted to Caritas Medical Centre for treatment on Dec 31 as tested positive for COVID-19. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the intensive care unit of Princess Margaret Hospital on Jan 2 this year. His condition continued to deteriorate and eventually succumbed at 7:02 pm Friday, according to a spokesperson for the hospital.
