HONG KONG – Hong Kong reported 5,564 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday as five more infected patients passed authorities, health authorities said.

The new cases included 5,179 local infections and 385 imported cases, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said in a statement. Hong Kong saw 5,424 new cases on Saturday and 5,106 the day before.

Ten residential care homes for the elderly and persons with disabilities recorded 15 new cases while two secondary schools had to suspend some classes due to infections.

The Public Health Laboratory Services Branch (PHLSB) of the Department of Health has also identified 55 cases of sub-lineages XBB, five of BQ.1.1, four of BA.2.75.2, and one BA.4.6 in Hong Kong, the CHP added.
