The Ministry of Science and Technology and the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will officially renew the “Mainland and Hong Kong on Accelerating the Construction of Hong Kong International Science and Technology Innovation Center Arrangements”.

Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang delivered this recorded message at the InnoTech Expo 2022, organized by Our Hong Kong Foundation and the China Science and Technology Exchange Center, on Monday.

With the theme “Technology Leading the Future”, the InnoTech Expo 2022 showcased the country’s major technological achievements during the “13th Five-Year Plan” (2016-2020), such as deep-sea technology, terrestrial technology and aerospace technology

“Under the guidance of the central government’s work policy for Hong Kong, the ministry will promote the cooperation of the mainland and Hong Kong’s science and technology sector, by leveraging Hong Kong’s unique advantages in technology and innovation,” Wang noted.

“As an important part of the national science and technology innovation system, Hong Kong’s technological strength will surely share the dividends of the country’s major opportunities for science and technology development, and must make new and greater contributions,” Wang added.

With the theme “Technology Leading the Future”, the exhibition showcased the country’s major technological achievements during the “13th Five-Year Plan” (2016-2020), such as deep-sea technology, terrestrial technology and aerospace technology; and the scientific research achievements since the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR.

Political heavyweights such as Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, Lu Xinning, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, and Yang Yirui, deputy commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong SAR, also attended the exhibition. 

“The national 14th Five-Year Plan clearly supports the construction of an international innovation and technology center in Hong Kong, bringing endless momentum to Hong Kong’s development,” Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said in the opening ceremony.

The chief executive said the government will soon release the development blueprint for the technology and innovation industry to help industry stakeholders, scientific research institutions, and tertiary institutions better understand the future path for Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development.

“Talents are the key to realize the vision. We need to create a favorable space for development so that more young people with potential and aspirations can see opportunities and hope,” Lee said.
