HONG KONG – Hong Kong's star cyclist Sarah Lee Wai-sze advanced to the semifinals of the women's sprint at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday. 

The 34-year-old defeated Katy Marchant of Great Britain 2-0 in their best-of-three quarterfinal at Izu Velodrome to keep alive her hopes of winning a medal at the Tokyo Games.

Earlier on Saturday, Lee edged Mathilde Gros of France by a mere 0.019 seconds in heat 4 of the 1/8th finals to enter the quarterfinals.

Lee, who won the bronze medal in the keirin during the London 2012 Olympics, will next race in the semifinals, which start at 9:18 am Hong Kong time on Sunday.
