HONG KONG – Uninfected individuals aged 18 to 59 years who are at higher risk of COVID-19 exposure infection or with personal needs may choose to receive a fourth dose of the vaccine starting from Saturday, the Hong Kong government announced.
Adults of this age group may get the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least six months from their third dose, no matter if their previous dose was BioNTech or the Sinovac one, the government said in a statement.
As the online booking system is being updated, those eligible for a fourth dose may go to community vaccination centers or Hospital COVID-19 vaccination stations to get a same-day ticket for vaccination from Saturday until May 25
People with higher risk of COVID-19 exposure include workers in healthcare settings, care homes and those working at control points and ports, according to the government.

Eligible people with person al needs, such as studying abroad, or to fulfill overseas travel requirements, may also choose to receive the fourth dose,
As the online booking system is being updated, those eligible for a fourth dose may go to community vaccination centers or Hospital COVID-19 vaccination stations to get a same-day ticket for vaccination from Saturday until May 25.
Starting from 8 am on May 26, members of the public can make reservations for vaccination through the designated website of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme.
For recovered adults in the same age group, now they can receive their third dose six months after they have received their second dose or their recovery, whichever is later, the government added.

"Experts considered a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine in younger populations may provide transient additional protection against infection and symptomatic diseases,” the government said.
As for people aged 60 or above, they have been allowed to choose to get vaccinated with their fourth dose since early April.
