Gibraltar Regulator Defends Predictstreet License Amid Reporting Concerns

(AsiaGameHub) -   The swift issuance of a gambling licence has drawn scrutiny amidst international concerns regarding prediction platforms. Gibraltar.- The Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner has defended the territory’s decision to grant a gambling licence to a prediction market operator for the first time. Media outlets and other observers had questioned the speed of the approval of the licence for ADI Predictstreet, particularly as regulators in other jurisdictions are moving to block such platforms. ADI Predictstreet is owned by Finstreet Limited, a subsidiary of Sirius International Holding, which is ultimately owned by the Abu Dhabi Royal Family. The licence was approved by the Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry, Nigel Feetham, under Gibraltar’s existing gambling legislation. This move has been presented as part of Gibraltar’s strategy to identify new revenue streams to counteract the potential impact of increased UK gaming taxes on its igaming sector. Feetham himself highlighted the licence's issuance in “record time” following his participation in the Consensus Hong Kong crypto and Web3 conference. This prompted questions regarding the thoroughness of the company's vetting process. In comments to the local media outlet GBC, Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner Andrew Lyman asserted that a due diligence process was indeed followed before the licence was approved. He stated that he recommended confirming the licence approval prior to the company's announcement of a multi-year deal with FIFA, which occurred the following day. ADI Predictstreet fuels further prediction market controversy Numerous EU countries, including Germany, The Netherlands, Romania, France, and Portugal, have explicitly prohibited certain prediction platforms, such as Polymarket. Concurrently, the British Gambling Commission has adopted the stance that prediction markets would be classified as gambling under UK legislation, thus necessitating a licence from the regulator. Reports concerning ADI Predictstreet have featured an article in the respected Norwegian investigative football magazine Josimar, under the headline “Fast and Loose.” The report notes that shortly after its launch on April 9, the company appointed Dimitrios Psarrakis as CEO. Psarrakis reportedly worked for the former European Parliament Vice President Eva Kaili, who was arrested in 2022 on corruption and money laundering charges linked to the Qatar World Cup, though she denies any wrongdoing. Other appointments include Colin Piri, a Gibraltarian formerly employed by Wave Crest Holdings Limited, a fintech firm that faced investigation for AML failings by the Financial Services Commission. Additionally, Principal Council Member Ajay Hans Raj Bhatia settled insider trading charges in India last year without admitting liability. It has also been pointed out that many jurisdictions typically take several months to process a gambling licence application. “Sensationalist” reporting Lyman characterized the controversy surrounding the company as “sensationalist” media reporting. He informed GBC that the processing times for gambling licence applications in Gibraltar can vary but generally take “weeks, not months.” He explained that there was a “concentrated focus on the progression of this license because of the need to license before the run up to the FIFA World Cup, but speed does not mean lack of scrutiny (in fact there was a lot of focussed scrutiny).” Regarding the legislation under which the licence was granted, he stated it was initially issued under Gibraltar’s 2005 Gambling Act and was subsequently “grandfathered” under the 2025 Act a few days later. When asked about the impact of the publicity surrounding ADI Predictstreet, he commented: “The licensing of Predictstreet has created a lot of excitement in the business community and a lot of interest in Gibraltar as a place to license gambling or gambling derivative models. We only see negativity from journalists looking naturally for a sensationalist angle in what is a newsworthy and hotly debated area.” He further added that “Being associated with a previous publicly reported ‘controversy’ does not necessarily lead to a conclusion of a lack of fitness and propriety or unsuitability, albeit I respect the right of journalists to speculate within the boundaries of the law of defamation.” Gibraltar’s action follows closely on the heels of confirmation of efforts to assess the potential regulation of prediction platforms in Malta, another significant European hub for online gambling. Economy Minister Silvio Schembri indicated that the country is exploring the creation of a dedicated regulatory framework for the sector to address whether the format should be considered gambling or financial. He described the sector as experiencing strong global momentum and considerable potential for innovation. This article is provided by a third-party. Swedish regulator issues warning to bingo halls for regulatory violations

(AsiaGameHub) -   A pair of bingo halls were identified as failing to provide mandatory details. The Swedish gambling authority, Spelinspektionen, has notified the Swedish Bingo Association regarding information gaps at two locations. These violations were discovered at Idrottens Bingo in Linköping and Bingoringen in Karlskoga during on-site visits conducted last year. Spelinspektionen explained that its agents visited the sites to evaluate how operators adhere to transparency regulations. These mandates dictate that contact information for the licensee and responsible gambling resources must be easily accessible, alongside the prize structure and minimum age requirements. At Idrottens Bingo, the authority noted the absence of the operator's email address and details regarding beneficiaries. While the jackpot amount was visible, specific information on line prizes for various games was missing. Although staff provided a booklet upon request and the data was accessible via QR codes or terminals, it was not openly displayed. Spelinspektionen emphasized that disclosing beneficiaries ensures players understand who receives the game's proceeds. “It is crucial for participants to know that their play provides financial backing to specific beneficiaries. Similarly, the prize structure must be posted within the venue so players can make informed decisions about participating,” the authority stated. The regulator determined that providing digital-only access to the prize structure through terminals or QR codes was insufficient. Regarding BingoRingen Karlskoga, the inspection revealed that the licensee’s email, phone number, and beneficiary information were not available on-site. Additionally, Spelinspektionen has cautioned all Swedish gambling operators to report changes in board membership, management, or ownership within 14 days. Any updates regarding official representatives must also be submitted. The authority highlighted that preparations for the Gambling Act indicated that suitability standards could be bypassed if personnel are changed immediately after a license is granted. Consequently, it is vital to monitor any shifts in key personnel. “We perform frequent audits to ensure the Gambling Act's stipulations are being met,” the regulator added. (AsiaGameHub) -   The sports betting handle experienced a 4.8 percent year-over-year decline. US.- Vermont Liquor and Lottery has announced that the state’s sports betting handle hit $21.8 million in March. This represents a 4.8 percent drop compared to the same month last year. Adjusted gross wagering revenue stood at $1.9 million, while total winnings amounted to $19.8 million. Basketball led the market with a $9.6 million handle, followed by tennis ($1.8 million) and table tennis ($1.4 million). E-basketball generated $846,756 in handle, and soccer contributed $825,914. Of the total handle, $15.2 million was wagered within Vermont and $6.6 million from outside the state. There were 9,781 active users in Vermont and 10,457 active users out of state. The total number of bets placed was 768,742: 588,155 in-state and 180,587 out-of-state. Vermont bill aims to ban prediction markets A bill recently filed in the Vermont House of Representatives proposes a ban on specific event contracts. The proposal has been referred to the Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs. Sponsored by Rep. Thomas Stevens, House Bill 913 would prohibit “prediction market securities or commodities related to the outcome of certain events.” The ban would cover prediction markets involving sports, contests, individuals, politics and campaigns, disasters, war, all-hazards situations, or death. New bill aims to ban online gambling in Brazil just one year after its regulation

(AsiaGameHub) -   A legislative proposal from Pedro Uczai, Bill PL-1808/2026, aims to prohibit every type of online gambling, which encompasses sports betting. Brazil.- A member of the Workers’ Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores – PT) has presented Bill PL-1808/2026 to Congress, aiming to impose a nationwide ban on all online gambling. This initiative follows just over a year after the commencement of a regulated online gambling market in Brazil. The draft law, submitted by deputy Pedro Uczai, surpasses President Lula da Silva's previous call to ban online casino gaming by demanding the full revocation of PL 2626/2023, the Bets Law that enabled the start of regulated online gambling in Brazil on January 1, 2025. This would also outlaw sports betting. The proposed legislation declares: “This Law prohibits, throughout the national territory, the exploitation, operation, offering, availability, promotion, advertising, intermediation and processing of transactions related to fixed-odds betting.” This action would effectively deconstruct the entire online gambling structure in Brazil, affecting all aspects from platform operations and advertising to sponsorships, payment systems, and intermediary services. The bill calls for the removal of betting apps and websites within 15 to 60 days, the blocking of financial transactions associated with gambling, and severe penalties for operators, affiliates, and service providers who break the law. The proposal is said to be supported by 68 PT lawmakers, who present it as a necessary step to safeguard public health and avert economic damage. Uczai contended that the PT government was obligated to act because of "rising household debt, financial instability and mental health issues" associated with the growth of online gambling. However, President Lula da Silva has not made any public statement regarding the proposal, even though he previously voiced a wish to ban online casino gaming in Brazil during his campaign for the presidential election in October, where he will seek a fourth term. Lula was anticipated to advocate for a ban on online casinos and/or advertising restrictions, not a total overturn of the gambling legislation he enacted in December 2023. Brazil's federal tax authority, Receita Federal, has projected R$13bn (€2.17bn) in revenue from gambling for 2026, funds that are crucial for the government's social programs. The bill is also expected to encounter significant opposition from Brazilian football leagues and media companies, which now rely heavily on betting sponsorships. Earlier this week, the Federal District Football Federation (FFDF) and National Football Union (Sinafut) issued a statement against bills already under consideration in Congress that seek bans on gambling advertising. They argue that an advertising prohibition would lead to a "collapse of the economic and financial model of the entire Brazilian football ecosystem." These bills include Bill 1212/2025 from PSD federal deputy Saulo Pedroso. Last week, PODE's Rodrigo Gambele submitted an urgent request to accelerate the processing of that bill. Virginia’s monthly casino revenue exceeds $100m for the first time

(AsiaGameHub) -   In March, gaming revenue reached $100.1m, representing a 17.5 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. US.- The Virginia Lottery has published its latest figures regarding casino gaming performance for March. Combined revenue from Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, Caesars Virginia, The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk, and Live! Petersburg reached $100.1m. This figure represents a 17.5 per cent year-on-year rise and signifies the first occasion that monthly earnings have surpassed the $100m milestone. Slot machines accounted for $75.2m of the total revenue, while table games contributed $24.9m. Furthermore, the state received $18m in tax contributions directed to the Gaming Proceeds Fund. The report indicates that Caesars Virginia topped the market, recording $34.2m in adjusted gross revenue (AGR), comprised of $25m from slots and $9.3m from table games. Rivers Casino Portsmouth followed with $27.5m ($19.7m from slots and $7.8m from tables), while Hard Rock Bristol reported $22m ($18.4m from slots and $3.7m from tables). Live! Petersburg, which commenced operations in January, recorded $15.2m in AGR, with $11.2m coming from slots and $4m from table games. The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk, which launched in November 2025, reported $1m in revenue from slot machines. Virginia governor vetoes bill to legalise skill games Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has vetoed Senate Bill 661, legislation intended to authorise electronic skill gaming machines across the state. She argued that the bill would place additional pressure on an already disjointed system and expand the number of machines without establishing a robust regulatory framework. The governor cited findings from the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) gathered during the period when skill games were legally permitted between 2020 and 2021. She noted that this data demonstrates a disproportionate density of machines in communities with higher poverty rates, larger minority populations, and lower levels of educational attainment. Washington DC bill proposes igaming legalization

(AsiaGameHub) -   The proposed Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act of 2026 would also prohibit sweepstakes casinos. US.- Legislation to legalize igaming in Washington DC has been introduced by Councilmember Wendell Felder. Along with legalizing online gaming, the Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act of 2026 would ban dual-currency gaming options and sweepstakes casinos. Felder maintains that residents are already participating in online slots and casino games through offshore, unregulated sites. He remarked that without a formal legal structure, these platforms function without adequate consumer safeguards, regulatory oversight, or age verification, creating hazards for the public and restricting the District's ability to intervene. He noted that the scale of this current activity is quite large. Felder stated: “This bill represents a realistic, data-driven strategy to bolster consumer protections, update our gaming laws, and capture tax revenue that is currently leaving the District.” This article is provided by a third-party. Fincore Merges TRI Platform with Sportradar’s Personalisation AI

(AsiaGameHub) -   This collaboration allows gaming operators to bridge the divide between AI-powered insights and immediate action. Press release.- Fincore and Sportradar have unveiled a strategic partnership that integrates their technologies, empowering operators to leverage AI-derived intelligence in real time within their current systems. Fincore’s TRI ecosystem is engineered specifically for contemporary gaming infrastructure realities. Its modular design means it only reveals the necessary components, connects seamlessly to existing Player Account Management (PAM), gaming, and bonus systems without demanding a full overhaul, and complies with the strict audit and access-control standards of global regulated markets. Fincore's architecture flexibly accommodates both legacy systems and new, greenfield platforms. Enhancing this execution framework, the partnership incorporates Sportradar’s VAIX: a collection of AI models that provide highly tailored Recommenders and Player Insight predictions for all sports and casino offerings. Operating in real-time, VAIX tracks player activity as it happens, initiating context-aware recommendations and rewards during live gameplay for any sport. Shortly after a player's initial interaction, VAIX generates highly accurate projections for customer lifetime value, churn probability, deposit potential, and bonus suggestions, letting operators capitalize on this intelligence at the most opportune moments. In combination, these platforms eliminate the delay between foresight and implementation. Sportradar supplies top-tier predictive intelligence, while Fincore delivers superior execution capabilities anywhere within the operator's environment. The outcome is a personalisation and bonus system that is swifter, more accurate, and commercially trackable, achieved without the complex integration or extensive in-house development that previously rendered such goals impractical. Mateja Popovic, CEO at Fincore, stated: “The gaming technology sector is advancing, with operators now looking to integrate leading-edge innovations directly into their central workflows. “This alliance lets Sportradar's clients immediately act upon robust AI-generated insights, effectively connecting prediction with action. Navigating Regulatory Compliance with Alberta’s New Dual Licensing Compliance Burden

(AsiaGameHub) -   Over the past three years or so, the ‘Ontario Model’ set the benchmark for familiar, comfortable regulatory standards. Operators had grown accustomed to the AGCO’s Registrar’s Standards, and the iGaming Ontario (iGO) revenue-sharing structure became a regular entry in every quarterly financial report. But as Dale Nally, Alberta’s Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, approaches the Q3 20206 “Go-Live” deadline, the industry is waking up to the fact that Alberta is rolling out an Ontario 2.0—meaning things are likely to get a bit more complex. Alberta’s Hybrid Regulatory Approach Alberta, often referred to as the ‘Wild West,’ has long favored a distinct approach to regulation. Its proposed framework suggests a hybrid model aimed at balancing private operators’ commercial ambitions with the province’s longstanding charitable gaming sector. Unlike Ontario, which eliminated its grey market via a large-scale shift to regulated platforms, Alberta faces a unique ‘Data Silo’ challenge. Operators seeking a license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC) are discovering the province requires local server hosting and specific responsible gaming measures that differ greatly from Ontario’s requirements. This results in a ‘dual licensing’ scenario where compliance isn’t just about executing a national Canadian strategy—it’s about navigating a patchwork of provincial rules. The Compliance Burden As of February 2026, Canada’s FINTAC (Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada) implemented new regulations for reporting digital assets and high-value wagers. This means operators must adopt a KYC (Know Your Customer) process robust enough to function across multiple provinces. Players crossing provincial borders should be able to transition smoothly from one jurisdiction’s rules to another. Complying with these requirements won’t come cheap, and as the Canadian market becomes increasingly fragmented, operators face greater difficulty understanding safety and operational standards across different regions. For insight into how Alberta’s entry criteria compare to global standards, many turn to platforms that review top online casinos—these sites offer detailed data on safety ratings, regulatory compliance, and market feedback. In the initial three years of regulation, geofencing was a top priority for many operators. Ontario’s poker and daily fantasy sports markets were limited to a pool of roughly 15 million users, which posed a liquidity crisis for high-volume operators. But in November 2025, the Ontario Court of Appeal issued a landmark decision in Reference re iGaming Ontario. The court ruled that Section 207 of the Criminal Code— which requires provinces to conduct and manage gaming within their borders—does not prevent Ontario from allowing players from international jurisdictions. The Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) Factor Adding to the pressure is the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA). Operators using AI for risk modeling or player matching in Canada must now provide an immutable audit trail for their AI systems. Meanwhile, in Alberta’s emerging market, the AGLC has indicated it won’t use its Red Tape Reduction authority to relax standards—instead, it will automate them. Operators are encouraged to adopt Agentic Compliance, which uses AI tools to automate required processes and report directly to relevant regulatory bodies. Although automation will cut down on manual paperwork, it brings a new challenge: ‘Algorithmic Liability.’ AI systems must have the immutable, auditable trail mentioned earlier and cannot be ‘black boxes’—their decision-making logic must be explainable. Building Resilience is Essential So, how can operators enter the Alberta market? Many are turning to interoperability and building ‘Modular Compliance Stacks’ as solutions. Rather than hardcoding software for a specific location, operators can develop ‘Compliance Middleware’ that switches between AGLC and AGCO rules based on the user’s geographic location. This strategy recognizes that while the Canadian market remains profitable, it’s no longer a one-size-fits-all landscape. By March 2026, geofencing technology has become obsolete. Ontario is actively forging ‘Liquidity Compacts’ with European and UK regulators, allowing Toronto-based players to join virtual poker tables with users in London or Madrid—all while remaining under Canadian regulatory oversight. Alberta hasn’t hesitated to follow Ontario’s lead. Minister Nally has stated that the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) is being designed with ‘Liquidity Interoperability’ as a core principle. Alberta aims to be more than an isolated market—it wants to serve as the Western anchor for the Pan-Canadian Liquidity Agreement. Trust as the Ultimate Currency The current compliance pressures are growing pains for a more resilient and trustworthy market. Back in 2022, geofencing and KYC were key concerns; by 2026, the dialogue has shifted to global liquidity, AI ethics (under AIDA), and Indigenous partnerships. Operators that thrive in Alberta’s upcoming launch will be those that see compliance not as a roadblock, but as an integral part of their offering. By adopting the ‘Audit-Ready’ culture of 2026, operators compliant with Canadian rules may find it easier to expand internationally and gain the trust of a safer-feeling audience.
